Middlesbrough want to sign Aston Villa’s Alan Hutton on a free transfer in the summer, as per a report by Sportslens.
The right-back’s contract at Aston Villa is due to expire in June and he will be free to leave them for nothing. This has left their Championship rivals Middlesbrough on red alert.
Middlesbrough’s manager, Tony Pulis, will be plotting some signings for the summer to help him put his own stamp on his side. He sold their former right-back Cyrus Christie to Fulham in January and will be looking for another in the summer to bolster his defensive options.
A move for Alan Hutton seems fairly likely. The 33-year-old is vastly experienced and is the type of signing that Pulis would make.
Hutton started his career at Rangers and moved to England with Premier League giants Tottenham Hotpur in 2008. He has since had spells at Sunderland, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Bolton Wanderers and Mallorca.
Middlesbrough still have a chance of promotion this season in the Play-Offs and Pulis will be confident that his side will get into the top six. They are currently 6th in the league but will be looking over their shoulder at Bristol City, Sheffield United, Preston North End and Millwall, who are all on their tail.
Alan Hutton could be on his way to the Riverside in the summer, but his intentions at the moment will be to help get Aston Villa back into the top flight.
