Aston Villa target move for ex-Bradford City and Liverpool goalkeeper

Aston Villa are plotting a summer move for Feyenoord goalkeeper Brad Jones, as per a report by Sports Mole.

The experienced 35 year-old has caught the eye of Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce and the Midlands club could make a move for him at the end of the season.

Championship side Aston Villa currently have Manchester United loanee Sam Johnstone as their first choice goalkeeper and it is yet to be seen whether or not they will sign him on a permanent basis yet. This suggests that a move depends on Villa getting promoted to the Premier League.

They are in the Play-Offs at the moment but their form has been poor recently, having lost their last two games. This has resulted in the gap between them and Cardiff City in second increasing.

Villa look to already be looking at potential signings for the summer and Brad Jones could be one of them. He has played for Eredivisie giants Feyenoord since July 2016 and he helped them win the league title last season.

Jones, who is an Australia international with 4 caps for his country, started his career at Middlesbrough and spent 10 years at the Riverside. He did however have various loan spells out at Shelbourne, Stockport County, Rotherham United, Blackpool and Sheffield Wednesday.

He was signed by Liverpool in 2010 for around £2.3 million but was mainly used as a back-up ‘keeper by the Reds. He was released by them in 2015 and he then joined League One side Bradford City.

However, after just three months he left Bradford by mutual consent and moved to Holland in January 2016 to sign for NEC Nijmegen. He impressed for them in the top flight and was snapped up by Feyenoord after one year. A move back to England could now be in the pipeline for Brad Jones, with Aston Villa on red alert.
