Nottingham Forest plotting summer move for Burnley star

Nottingham Forest are interested in signing Burnley midfielder Dean Marney in the summer, as per a report by HITC Sport.

The 34 year-old has been out injured so far this season and has yet to play for the Premier League side. However, he is fit again and is back on the bench for Sean Dyche’s side.

Nottingham Forest want to sign him on a free transfer as their boss Aitor Karanka wants to build a new squad. They signed 11 players in January as the Spaniard is trying to put his own stamp on his newly inherited squad.

Dean Marney is wanted for his experience in midfield. Forest midfielders David Vaughan Chris Cohen are both out of contract in the summer and could be set to leave with it yet to be known whether they will be offered a new deal. Loanee Jack Colback will also return to Newcastle, meaning Forest will be short of midfielders.

Marney could be a shrewd signing for the Championship side. He has racked up over 400 appearances in his career and his experience would come in handy for Aitor Karanka’s side.

He started his career at Tottenham Hotspur but never broke into their first-team. He had loan spells as a youngster at Swindon Town, QPR, Gillingham and Norwich City before leaving Spurs on a permanent deal to join Hull City in 2006.

He has played a key role in promotions from the Championship with Hull City in 2008 and with Burnley in 2014 and 2016. Nottingham Forest fans will be hoping that, if he does join them, he can inspire them to a promotion in 2019.
