Alex Song (released January 31 2018 by Rubin Kazan)

Former Charlton loanee Song has been on the free agent market since his release by Russian Premier Liga side Rubin Kazan at the end of January. He’s no stranger to English football having been brought to these shores by Arsene Wenger, Arsenal paying £3.6 million for him from French side SC Bastia in 2005. He would bring a wealth of experience with him having 190 Premier League appearances for Arsenal and West Ham as well as 39 appearances for Barcelona in La Liga after his £17.1 million move to the Catalan capital in mid-August 2012. He spent a further two season on loan from Barça to West Ham between August 2014-June 2016 before the Spanish side offloaded him to Rubin Kazan on a July 2016 free transfer. He featured 22 times (one goal/three assists) for the Russian side before being released.

Danijel Subotic (released January 1 2018 by Ulsan Hyundai)

Cast your mind back 10 years and Subotic was brought to English football by Portsmouth from FC Basel U21. He didn’t make the breakthrough as Portsmouth slid down the leagues, the now 29-year-old making just seven appearances, scoring two goals, for Pompey’s Under-21 side. A loan move to Southend came about before Subotic was released to Grosetto in Italy on a free transfer. A series of other free deals saw him move to the likes of Craiova, Sheriff Tiraspol (38 games/17 goals) and FK Gabala (39 games/15 goals) before his eventual move to South Korea’s K-League with Ulsan.
