Wales international labels Wolves as “too good” for Championship

Wales international midfielder Dave Edwards has admitted that Wolves are “too good” for the Sky Bet Championship.

Wolves sit six points ahead of second-placed Cardiff City and ten points clear of third-placed Aston Villa. With twelve Sky Bet Championship matches remaining, promotion is looking more and more likely for the West Midlands side.

However, despite their clear advantage over their promotion rivals, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have failed to win in their previous three games.

Edwards spent nine years with Wolves before moving to Sky Bet Championship rivals Reading earlier this season but admitted that he feels Wolves will almost certainly win promotion to the Premier League.

Speaking to TalkSport 2’s The72 show, Edwards said: “It is is six points but, on a personal level, I just think Wolves are too good.

“I said, maybe three or four games into the season, they could be on for a record-breaking season.

“You look at the quality they’ve got, I was lucky to enough to work there in pre-season and see what the manager is all about.

“He is top drawer and then you implement all the players in his arsenal as well, it is going to be a really successful team – not just this season.

“I think they’ll go on to the Premier League and go again. I don’t think they’ll be cannon fodder for the big boys.

“We saw their performances against Manchester City and Southampton – with their second string, at times, in those cup games.

“They’ve got too much strength in depth and when that club gets going, it’s hard to stop. We were lucky to have that in 08/09.

“Once the fans sense that success and sense it’s close, they drive you forward.”
