Sky Bet League One club Rochdale will replace their sand-covered playing surface at Spotland with a new pitch ahead of their FA Cup Fifth Round meeting with English Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur next weekend.
The Dale have suffered a number of postponements at their home ground in recent weeks following several spells of heavy rain in Lancashire.
The club’s latest washout came this morning when Rochdale’s home fixture against Fleetwood Town was postponed due to another waterlogged pitch.
With the current playing surface posing a real threat to the club’s Sky Bet League One survival hopes, Rochdale have announced that a new pitch will be laid at Spotland with work beginning immediately.
The repair work will take around seven days to complete and Rochdale will play on the new surface for the first time when Spurs are the visitors to Lancashire in the FA Cup Fifth Round in eight days’ time.
The Dale are currently second bottom of the league table, although, they have played less games than any other sides in the division. Rochdale have hosted just one league game in 2018 so far, with the other two home matches coming in the EFL Trophy and the FA Cup.
The FA Cup Fifth Round tie with Spurs is set to earn Rochdale a bumper payday with the match set to be broadcasted live.
