Goalkeeper
Scott Flinders (Hartlepool United)
A loyal servant to Hartlepool after a four year stay with the club. He’s played at League One level before with Pool so knows what is required to make the jump. He’s a good shot-stopper and a very commanding keeper. He’ll be eyeing an improvement to last season’s league position with Hartlepool and the play-offs will be on their radar.
Defender
John Ashton (Stevenage)
Had a solid season with Stevenage despite their relegation. He’s an absolute rock at the heart of the defence and his positional play is outstanding. Many strikers in League 2 will go a whole game without winning a header against him. He’ll be eyeing a return to League One with Stevenage this term.
Midfielder
Jed Wallace (Portsmouth)
He’s come through the ranks at Portsmouth and after impressive performances last season, he’s ready to take the club back up the Football League ladder. He scored 7 goals in 44 games for Pompey last season and offers energy and good ability on the ball in centre of the park.
Wide Midfielder
Kevan Hurst (Southend United)
I’m surprised Hurst is still playing in League 2. He’s a great crosser of the ball and what he lacks in pace he makes up for in his dribbling ability. He has an eye for goal too with 18 goals in 81 appearances for Southend. He’ll be looking to go one better with Southend this season after their failed play-off campaign and help them to promotion.
Striker
Ryan Lowe (Bury)
After 19 goals for relegated Tranmere Rovers in League One last season, I’m baffled to how Lowe is back in League 2. After spells with Chester City, Bury, Sheffield Wednesday, MK Dons and Tranmere, the stats don’t lie; Ryan Lowe scores goals. It’s that simple. He’s a very good bet for League Two top scorer and a good bet to be playing in League One in 2015-16 with Bury.
