Brentford head coach Dean Smith was disappointed about the loss especially as he thought that they had the better chances to get the win.
He told the club website: “It was two evenly matched teams and it should have been a good game but it was spoiled by the officials. We had the better chances. Florian Jozefzoon put one over the bar and Ollie Watkins dragged one wide but then the referee decided to change the game. It was disappointing to see the reaction of their players. Sergi Canos gets there early and wins the ball. He may catch him on the follow through but it’s never a red card. The reaction of the Derby players gets him sent off. We will probably appeal it. The referee told me he was out of control and used excessive force but I don’t know how you can tackle on that greasy surface without force.”
