New Reading signing wants to push them up the table

Reading’s new signing Tommy Elphick has told the Reading Chronicle that he wants to push the team further up the Sky Bet Championship table.

After reports linking him to several Sky Bet Championship sides, Elphick would eventually sign for Reading on loan from Aston Villa until the end of the season. And while he hasn’t started for the Royals yet, he did make his debut on Tuesday night when he came off the bench to play in Reading’s big 3-1 win over Burton Albion.

And now speaking ahead of Reading’s match with Millwall tomorrow, Elphick is hoping that he can inspire Reading to rise up the Championship table. They are currently in 18th place and are having to look over their shoulders to make sure they don’t get relegated. Elphick comes from a side that are fighting for promotion and has had great success in this league before so he’ll be hoping that he can help the team get out of their current predicament.

He said: “It’s noticeable that the lads have been a bit low on confidence,”

“The main aim for me is to come here and make a difference. Leadership is one of my skills, and sometimes when you’re on a bad run you can forget that you’re a good player.”

When asked about his new head coach Jaap Stam, he added: “As a player, Jaap was immense,”

“And when I first started watching football he made a big impression on me.

“I’m just really looking forward to adding to the group and working with the manager on a daily basis.”
