Birmingham City may travel to Hillsborough without key midfield duo

Birmingham City’s task of recording back-to-back wins in the Sky Bet Championship could be made all the more difficult with the possible absence of two key players for Saturday’s fixture against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

The Blues were 3-1 winners over fellow strugglers Sunderland at St Andrews on Tuesday evening, a result which lifted the club out of the relegation zone.

Steve Cotterill’s side now face a tough fixture against Sheffield Wednesday in South Yorkshire and it has been reported by official club sources that midfield duo Jacques Maghoma and David Davis are both likely to miss the match with injuries sustained in the midweek victory over The Black Cats.

Maghoma was substituted just after the hour mark with a groin problem while fellow teammate Davis picked up a thigh injury 10 minutes before the end of the match. Both players were instrumental in the victory and were involved in the three goals scored by their side.

Zaire born midfielder Maghoma has made 28 appearances for Birmingham City so far this season in which he has scored four goals while teammate Davis has scored twice in 30 outings.

Birmingham City’s away form has improved of late. Cotterill’s men are unbeaten in four away trips dating back to a 1-0 defeat at Fulham in early December.
