Wigan Athletic have won the battle to sign Fleetwood Town’s Devante Cole according to a report from journalist Pete O’Rourke.
It was always expected that Cole would be one of the stories of transfer deadline day. He was one last time around when Sheffield United seemed to complete a deal to sign him only for the paperwork not to be completed on time and interest in his has only risen since. He has performed very well this season and has scored 12 goals though Fleetwood have still been stuck in mid-table mediocrity this season.
Earlier today it was Rangers who had tried to sign Cole by making a bid for him and many thought they would be the team to snap him up. But the former Manchester City striker has decided that he doesn’t want to travel that far as Wigan are set to win the race to sign him. The Latics currently top Sky Bet League One but need reinforcements to make sure they stay there and get promoted to the Sky Bet Championship. And with Cole’s form in League One, he seems like he will be the ideal addition.
The 22-year-old striker, who has been capped by the England U19s two times, started his career with Manchester United but was unable to break into the first team despite successful loan spells with Barnsley and MK Dons. He would then move to Bradford City but he didn’t stay in West Yorkshire for very long, staying there for five months before heading to Fleetwood.
