Southend United set to sign Tottenham Hotspur striker

Southend United are set to sign Tottenham Hotspur’s Shayon Harrison according to a report from the Daily Mail.

The 20-year-old striker is currently coming through the Tottenham academy and he is seen as a top prospect at the club. However in recent times he has been struggling to show why he has that reputation. After looking like he might break through into the first team in 2016, he has been overtaken by young strikers and has also been hit with a few injuries which has limited his game time.

But Harrison is hoping that a short loan away from Tottenham can help reignite his career and Southend are the team that are set to sign him. They have a new manager after Chris Powell came into replace Phil Brown and he is now looking to reshape his squad ahead of what is going to be a tough second half of the season in Sky Bet League One. And with Harrison set to have plenty of youthful energy, he could be exactly what the team needs.

What makes him a more appetizing signing is that he isn’t completely inexperienced in the EFL. Last year he went on loan with Yeovil Town and would go on to make 14 appearances for them, scoring just the once. Now that he is close to penning a deal with Southend he will be hoping to improve on that spell and prove to the coaches back at Tottenham that he has what it takes to break into their first team.
