Leeds United striker hunt to conclude – latest news

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Phil Hay, earlier tonight Leeds United were making a concerted effort to land West Brom’s young striker Tyler Roberts. Now things have advanced.

Last week according to Warren Haughton, writing in The Sun, Leeds United had a £4million bid for West Brom striker Tyler Roberts turned down by the Baggies. Haughton also wrote that Leeds United had, by this bid, entered the race for the exciting 19-year-old Welsh striker and, in doing so, joined Scottish giants Rangers and French Ligue 1 side Marseille.

However it became clear ahead of tonight’s game against Hull City at the KCOM Stadium that things were starting to hot up. The main thing that changed at the Hawthorns, with the Baggies bringing in Daniel Sturridge on loan from Liverpool.

After the rebuttal of Leeds’ £4 million offer, it seems that Sturridge’s arrival has been something of a game changer. Hay says that the Elland Road outfit “are in advanced talks” and hoping to bring the 19-year-old in on a permanent deal “ahead of tomorrow’s 11pm transfer deadline.”

Now, in a series of tweets relayed by BBC Radio Leeds’ Adam Pope and the YEP’s Phil hay, things have definitely advanced some and the Whites look certain to get their man ahead of tomorrow evening’s 11pm deadline.

Leeds United have been struggling somewhat for a dynamic striker and consistent threat in front of goal, having to rely on the offerings of German loanee Pierre-Michel Lasogga (seven goals) and former Oxford United hotshot Kemar Roofe (eight goals).

Bringing Roberts in ahead of the closing of tomorrow’s final transfer window of the season could be that shot in the arm that the Whites need to push them forward and on into the play-off places.
