Bolton seek Premier League starlet in January swoop

Sky Bet Championship side Bolton Wanderers are hopeful of signing striker Chung-Yong Lee on-loan prior to tomorrow’s transfer deadline, according to Sky Sports.

Reports suggest that a deal between the two sides is currently being discussed, however yesterday Roy Hodgson confirmed that one of his first-team squad would depart on-loan.

The Sky Bet Championship side hope that the offer of regular first-team football will attract Lee to the Macron ahead of this summer’s FIFA World Cup in Russia. The Palace striker has started just one Premier League game this season for the London side, however he has been informed that he can look for a new home if he chooses.

Phil Parkinson tried to sign the 29-year-old front-man in August however they were told that he wanted to fight for a regular place in the team at Selhurst Park. But his failure to play regular first team football has left his place in the Korea squad in jeopardy, however this uncertainty about the immediate future could prove to be a positive for the Whites.

Having started his career as an eleven-year-old, Lee Chung-Yong progressed through the youth ranks at FC Seoul before breaking into the first team during the 2007-08 season. The following season saw the Korean international cement his place as a regular as he played 22 League matches, scoring five times.

In August 2009 Lee Chung-Yong’s move from Korea to Bolton Wanderers was officially confirmed and he made his debut as a substitute in the 1-0 defeat to Sunderland.

Despite his bright start to life at the Macron Stadium, a number of injuries hampered Lee Chung-Yong’s progress. But towards the end of the 2013-14 season the Korean’s form returned and on February 2nd December he signed for Premier League side Crystal Palace.
