Brentford are set to beat Aston Villa and Chelsea to the signature of Limerick’s Chiedozie Ogbene according to a report from the Limerick leader via RTE.

The 20-year-old striker has been impressing many people this season in scoring ten goals for Limerick. This has attracted plenty of interest from across the Irish sea with even Chelsea being one of the teams who have been looking to sign him. Ogbene spent some time at Stamford Bridge in the summer on trial with the club and while he didn’t get a contract them, Chelsea continued to keep track of him.

But while Chelsea and even Aston Villa were fans of Ogbene and were looking to sign him, it will be Brentford that win this fight and sign him. Brentford have agreed a deal to sign him and it should all be completed by transfer deadline day on Wednesday. There were some murmurs this weekend that he was set to leave after not being included in the first team for the friendly match against the Cobh Ramblers and it appears that this report has confirmed it.

This is a huge coup for Brentford after they proved they can beat one of the best teams in the country to someone’s signature. But it remains to be seen if Ogbene will be chucked into the first team just yet. Brentford do have a talented B team that several of their youngsters play in before getting a chance in the first team and instead of being thrown in the deep end, Ogbene might get a shot there first.
