30 goal striker comments on Leeds United trial

“Forget signing another midfielder, we need a striker!” has been the call reverberating around Elland Road with fans not convinced with the current stock of frontmen.

Since Chris Wood left early on in the 2017/18 campaign for Premier League Burnley, the Whites have been without that regular goal threat. Yes Kemar Roofe has eight goals and German loanee Pierre-Michel Lasogga has seven, but there’s no out-and-out goal threat at the club.

However, that hasn’t stopped the club looking for one – although Managing Director Angus Kinnear  says that the club won’t buy for buying’s sake and that any incoming striker must be better than the current stock at the club.

The Whites have brought in Lasogga from SV Hamburg on trial and it seems this trend is continuing with Leeds United offering a trial to prolific Swedish youth striker Ardian Berisha of Halmstads BK. The 30-goal Under-19 striker, along with 16-year-old goalkeeper Noel Törnqvist, has been at the club on trial since last Sunday according to 24 Halmstad.

Berisha is now a free agent, his Halmstads contract having now expired with the Superettan outfit. It is his first trip abroad to train with a foreign club, something he says that he has benefitted from immensely. “I’m incredibly motivated. When I was training with the U-23 team, there was a different pace, physics and technology than you are used to.”

Berisha then goes on to add that he has his eyes firmly fixed on one thing – his end goal being to get signed. On this he told Halmstads 24, “But for me it’s a win-win situation. I will experience my dream even if it would not be successful. But I’m here to get the contract, then we’ll see how it goes. I hope the coaches are happy with me. I am satisfied myself.”

Leeds United have been stocking their Under-23 squad with talented youngsters from outside of the United Kingdom, a large number of these players coming from Spain. It is not beyond the realm of possibility that Berisha could make the move from Sweden to Leeds United, but if not it is something that the youngster has covered.

Speaking on this matter the 19-year-old said in closing out his interview, “Me and my agent have good conversation with many teams. We will see how it will be.”
