Seagulls ready to swoop for Charlton Athletic defender

Brighton & Hove Albion are thought to be ready to beat English Premier League rivals Arsenal, Everton and Liverpool to the signing of Charlton Athletic defender Ezri Konsa according to The Sun.

The 20-year-old Newham born centre-back is rated very highly by The Addicks but the South East London club have admitted defeat in retaining the youngster’s services for the long term.

English Premier League giants Arsenal, Everton and Liverpool have all recently been linked with moves for the player during the current transfer window although no transfer offers are said to have been submitted. It has now been reported that Brighton & Hove Albion could be ready to take the lead in the race for the defender’s signature by submitting an £8 million transfer offer.

Konsa is a product of the academy system at The Valley. The player has successfully made the jump up to the first team squad and has made 70 appearances for The Addicks in all competitions.

The centre-back’s biggest career achievement to date came last summer when Konsa was a member of the England Under-20 side which won the 2017 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in South Korea. The youngster was an unused substitute in the final as England beat Venezuela 1-0 courtesy of a Dominic Calvert-Lewin goal. Konsa made his debut in 3-1 the semi-final win over Italy with the player being introduced from the bench late on.
