Bristol City have bid for Norwich City winger rejected

Bristol City have had a seven-figure bid rejected by Norwich City for Marley Watkins, according to the Pink Un.

The winger only joined Norwich in the summer but is the subject of interest from promotion chasing Bristol City. However, the Canaries are standing firm at the moment.

The 27 year-old has not been a first-team regular for Norwich since making the switch from Barnsley in the summer. He has also been left out of their last games by Daniel Farke.

With Norwich having signed Brauschweig winger Onel Hernandez and a deal for SC Paderborn striker Dennis Srbeny close, this could free up Watkins to leave if Bristol City up their offer and they agree on a fee.

Watkins climbed his way up the football pyramid the hard way and had to start at the bottom and work his way up. He started his career at Swansea City but was released in 2007 and signed for Cheltenham Town.

He spent three years with Cheltenham before falling out of favour and joining Bath City. He then joined Hereford United on a one-year deal before moving up to Scotland to play for Inverness.

He impressed in his two seasons in Scotland and was signed by Barnsley in 2015. He won the Football League trophy and won promotion from League One in his first season at Oakwell and he scored 10 goals for them in the Championship last season.

It has not worked out for Watkins at Norwich so far but with Bristol City making a move for him, he could be on his way out of Carrow Road already.
