Leeds United midfielder makes loan switch to Eredivisie

Leeds 27-year-old midfielder Mateusz Klich has made a loan move to Eredivisie side FC Utrecht on a six month deal.

Klich has experience of playing in the Netherlands, having moved to Elland Road in the summer from FC Twente.

The Polish international signed a three-year contract  but has failed to establish himself in Thomas Christiansen’s side.  He has made 10 appearances in all competitions since his switch to the club in June.

The £1.5m signing has not had an opportunity to cement a place in the side and the move probably comes at the right time for the player who will be hoping to rediscover the swagger that engineered the move to England in the first place.

It is hard, at this point in time, to see Klich returning to Elland Road in the summer and he will surely seek to either extend his spell with Utrecht if it goes to plan or look for a permanent transfer elsewhere.

Adam Forshaw found his opportunities limited when Tony Pulis took over at Middlesbrough before Christmas and his exile encouraged him to agree a switch to Elland Road.  His arrival though was probably the clearest signal yet that Klich was surplus to requirements.

A pre-season injury didn’t help matters either, and Klich’s only start came in the 3-1 defeat to Cardiff in Septemer, Christiansen hauling him off with a little over twenty minutes left to play.

A player who likes to pass and is tidy in possession, it wasn’t the right opportunity for Klich.  It is unlikely we will see him in a Leeds jersey again; although in football, you never know what may happen in time.
