Cardiff City ready to join Rangers in race for Accies ace

Sky Bet Championship promotion hopefuls Cardiff City are ready to join Scottish Premiership giants Rangers in the race to sign Hamilton Academical youngster Greg Docherty according to the Daily Record.

The 21-year-old former Scotland youth international midfielder has impressed for The Accies this season despite the club’s continuous struggle against the several sides with bigger playing budgets in the division.

Docherty has made 25 appearances in all competitions for his club this term and was most recently on the scoresheet for the unfashionable Scottish Premiership outfit as they beat local rivals Motherwell 3-1 at Fir Park in their final game of 2017.

With the midfielder currently in good form, it has been reported that Glasgow giants Rangers are monitoring the player’s progress and it is now believed that Sky Bet Championship club Cardiff City could be ready to rival the Ibrox-based club for Docherty’s signature with The Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock also thought to be an admirer.

Docherty has come through the youth system at New Douglas Park and the player has already made 108 appearances for The Accies in which he has netted eight goals. The midfielder has two-and-a-half years remaining on his current deal with the South Lanarkshire club but Docherty could prove to be an affordable option for Cardiff City.

A sequence of four straight league defeats has seen The Bluebirds surrender their automatic promotion spot in the Sky Bet Championship table and new faces are needed to help the club sustain their push for promotion.
