Barnsley, Bolton Wanderers and Ipswich Town in chase for Cardiff City winger

Barnsley, Bolton Wanderers and Ipswich Town are all considering making moves for Cardiff City’s Anthony Pilkington according to a report from HITC Sport.

While the Bluebirds have been doing very well this season, they are currently third in the Sky Bet Championship, Pilkington has not been a part of that success. He has been forced to watch from the sidelines as he has found himself out of favour with head coach Neil Warnock and it is becoming increasingly likely that he will be departing South Wales at some point in the transfer window.

This alerted many of Cardiff’s Championship rivals who would very happy to sign Pilkington. Barnsley, Bolton and Ipswich are all fans of the player and they are currently considering making a move to sign the Republic of Ireland international. There are many things to consider for these sides before making an approach, most notably his wages which could be high as he was a high-profile signing from Norwich City back in 2014, but all of these sides know that Pilkington would be a big upgrade on the talent they currently have.

Barnsley and Bolton are currently just out of the relegation zone but are still wary and are looking over the shoulders at the bottom three. The addition of Pilkington would definitely be a boon to either side. A move to Ipswich may be trickier considering the winger counts Norwich as one of his former clubs, but he may still be a player that could help them find their early season form again.
