Twitter reacts as Fleetwood Town goalkeeper earns year’s supply of pizza

Twitter is delighted for Fleetwood Town’s Chris Neal as he earned a year’s supply of pizza from Papa John’s after earning a clean sheet against Leicester City in the FA Cup.

When Fleetwood drew Leicester in the Third Round of the FA Cup, it was imagined that it would be the Jamie Vardy game. The England international made his name at Fleetwood, firing them into the EFL before earning his move to Leicester City. However people hoping for a bit of drama as Vardy returned to his old club would be disappointed as was ruled out of the game and had to watch from the stands.

That’s when the media’s eyes turned to Chris Neal, who had more than just FA Cup glory to play for. Due to a team up between Fleetwood Town and pizza chain Papa John’s, Neal would earn a month’s supply of pizza for every 7-and-a-half minutes that went in the game without conceding a goal. A clean sheet therefore would earn him a year’s supply.

And that’s exactly what happened. In a match that few would describe as a classic, Fleetwood actually controlled most of the game and seemed the most likely to nick a goal, especially when Ashley Hunter’s deflected strike initially wrongfooted Eldin Jakupovic in the opposition goal. Neal was rarely tested in his own goal and that would end up landing him pizza for a year. And while most neutrals were bored watching the game, they were delighted that Neal can now tuck into pizza whenever he wants.
