NEWS: Preston submit bid for highly rated Oxford United midfielder

Preston North End have made a £500k bid for highly rated Oxford United midfielder Ryan Ledson, according to The Sun.

North End currently sit in 9th spot in the Championship table, just three points behind 6th place Leeds United.

Preston manager Alex Neil is keen on strengthening his squad this month, and has already moved quickly to secure the deals of Motherwell striker Louis Moult and Bristol Rovers forward Billy Bodin.

Neil has made it clear to the Preston board he is determined to reach the Premier League season, in what is his first year as the clubs boss. He is keen to make his signings early in order to bed them into the squad quickly.

Ledson progressed through the ranks of hometown club Everton. He spent twelve years at the clubs academy, before signing his first professional contract at the age of seventeen.

He made his debut for the Toffees four months later in a Europa League group stage clash with Russian side FC Krasnodar, in a game they lost 1-0.

Ledson then moved on loan to League Two side Cambridge United in November 2015. He went onto make 27 appearances for the club.

In the summer of 2016, Ledson joined current club Oxford United on a three-year deal. The 20-year old has scored three times in 47 appearances for United and his performances have caught the eye of Championship clubs.

Ledson has represented England at various youth levels, between the under 16’s and under 20’s. He also captained the under 17’s side to European Championship glory in 2014.

The report states that a number of Championship sides have been monitoring Ledson but it appears that Preston have made the first move.
