Bristol City are looking to sign Everton’s Liam Walsh for £1m according to a report from The Sun.
The 20-year-old midfielder came through Everton’s academy and while it is noted for the amount of players who have broken through and made it into the first team, it doesn’t appear that Walsh will be one of those players. While he is well liked in the academy, there are a lot of other talented midfielders in the institution who look set to get a chance ahead of him.
And with Walsh now heading back to Everton after his loan at Birmingham City was ended after not being used by Steve Cotterill following his appointment as head coach, he will soon be sold on a permanent deal. While Bristol City have done very well this season, they need new central midfielders after the injury to Korey Smith, which ruled him out for a game, showed how thin they are in that area. And with the Robins being able to wrap up a £1m to sign a young talented midfielder, they are moving quick to do so before any other Sky Bet Championship team can pip them to it.
The Robins have been one of the surprise packages of the season. In just one season they have gone from trying to stave off relegation to fighting for promotion and they are currently 4th in the Championship. And should Bristol City be able to complete the deal to sign Walsh, they’ll have a big boost as they go into the second half of the season.
