Blackburn Rovers set to secure impressive loan move for Premier League striker

League One side Blackburn Rovers are set to sign Newcastle United striker Adam Armstrong on loan until the end of the season, according to Football Insider.

The 20 year-old striker has spent the first part of this season on loan at Championship side Bolton Wanderers but has only scored 1 goal in 20 games with many appearances coming off the bench. He is therefore going to be recalled by the Magpies and sent to Blackburn Rovers to aid his development.

He is highly rated at Newcastle and has already played 17 games for their first-team so far in his career. He was a product of their academy and he has also played for England at U16, U17, U18, U19 and U20 level.

He already knows Blackburn manager well from their time at Coventry City together. Armstrong spent the 2015/16 season on loan at the Sky Blues in League One and scored 20 goals for them in a prolific campaign for him.

Newcastle then sent him on loan to Championship side Barnsley last season and Armstrong gained some more first-team experience. Although he only bagged 6 league goals for the Tykes, he still had a decent season for them and helped them stay up comfortably.

It is a shame that his move to Bolton in the summer has not really worked out but Tony Mowbray has got the best out of him at Coventry and should be able to again now at Blackburn.

Blackburn Rovers fans will be hoping that Armstrong can score some goals for them and fire them into the Championship.
