Candidates from around the world apply for Sheffield Wednesday job

Candidates from around the world have applied for the Sheffield Wednesday head coach’s job according to a report from the Sheffield Star.

The Owls have been on the look out for a new manager since Carlos Carvalhal departed the club on Christmas Eve after a poor string of results saw them drop to the bottom half of the Sky Bet Championship table. While Lee Bullen has been placed in interim charge of the club, poor results against Brentford and Burton Albion appear to have ruled him out of the running.

Some fans have feared that with the team being in poor shape that no one would want the Wednesday job but this report seems to prove this wrong. Lots of applications have been sent for the job and they all come from all across the world, meaning that much like the appointment of Carvalhal, the Owls may be set to appoint another boss that is little known in the UK.

While it is unknown if he is one of the men who has sent in an application, former Wolves manager Paul Lambert is the current favorite to get the job. Also highly rated by the bookies is former Brighton and Hove Albion head coach Gus Poyet and ex-England manager Steve McClaren. There has been links to plenty of managers over the last few days though with even the likes of the Premier League winning Claudio Ranieri and former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur man Andre Villas-Boas being reported to be wanted for the job.
