Cambridge United sign Norwich youth captain on loan

Cambridge United have signed Adam Phillips on loan from Norwich City until the end of the season as confirmed by the club website.

The 19-year-old midfielder came through the Liverpool academy and while he was highly thought of there, he would end up leaving Merseyside and joining Norwich last summer. While he has been doing very well for their developmental side, even being named their captain, he needs more first team football to make sure he develops as a player.

And he will get that now that he has signed for Cambridge on loan until the end of the season. The U’s are currently stuck in the mid-table of Sky Bet League Two and need a spark to try and make sure this season isn’t as forgettable as it seems like it will become. With Phillips being a very good young midfielder and one that should be able to break into the Norwich first team in the future, he definitely should be able to make an impact for Cambridge.

Cambridge head coach Shaun Derry said: “Adam is a player that arrives with a fantastic reputation and one that we have kept a close eye on for a couple of years now.

“With the second half of the season still to play, we highlighted the need for more options and quality on the ball in midfield areas.”

“We wish Adam the very best of luck during his time here with Cambridge United.”

Phillips could make his debut on the 13th January when Cambridge face Mansfield Town.
