Match Preview: Charlton Athletic vs Oldham Athletic

Charlton are set to welcome Oldham to The Valley on Saturday looking to end a winless run to close the gap on the play offs.

Charlton Athletic are 9th in League One and are 4 points outside the play offs. Karl Robinson’s side haven’t won a league game in 9 games, leaving the Addicks with only 3 points from a possible twenty-seven available. Charlton hosted Gillingham on New Years Day but fell victim to a 2-1 defeat but Karl Robinson will be looking to bounce back against Oldham.

Oldham enter the clash in 20th, a point above AFC Wimbledon in 21st. Latics are winless in their previous 5 league games, this poor run has left Oldham with 2 points from a possible fifthteen available. Latics travelled to Shrewsbury on New Years Day but lost 1-0 through a goal from Shaun Whalley.

Karl Robinson spoke to Charlton’s website about their recent form, here is what he had to say “It’s not the form we needed. I won’t make excuses – we are the worst injury-hit squads in the league by far – but we can’t let that beat us. We have to believe in the quality of players in there.”

“You have to look at yourself and take sole responsibility for your own performance and, collectively, you have to put it together to make sure it doesn’t continue.”

Oldham’s new signing Patrick McEleney is set to make his debut for the club as Wellens looks to replace Jack Byrne after his loan spell expired.

Wellens is looking forward to seeing the Northern Irish playmaker in action as he told Ifollow Latics “I can’t wait to get Patrick McEleney on the pitch because he’s a clever player, he’s got two good feet and he’s the type of player that I want to represent me when he goes on the football pitch.”
