2. Cyrus Christie and the right back situation
Loanee Andre Wisdom’s return to Liverpool presents Steve McClaren with a conundrum. The only right back on Derby’s books at the end of the season was Keiron Freeman, a still unproven Welsh under 21 international. Wisdom was both a hit with the Rams fans and a stalwart defender on the pitch, bringing Premier League and international class and experience. Derby have recently signed highly rated Coventry youngster Cyrus Christie to provide options at the position. Christie is seen as something of a diamond in the rough though, someone whose defensive abilities have not yet caught up to his attacking prowess. Christie will provide Mclaren with a project that he needs to succeed with if Derby are to push for the top of the table.
