PREVIEW: Grimsby vs Accrington Stanley – Mariners looking to sail to a league double

Grimsby Town will be hoping to complete a league double over Accrington Stanley when the sides meet at Blundell Park this weekend.

The Mariners sit in 13th place in SkyBet League Two, having won 34 points from their 24 games played this season. Opponents Stanley sit ahead of them in 9th. Stanley have slipped down the table dramatically following a run of bad results.

Grimsby come into the clash having drawn two of their last three games. A 1-1 draw with Steve Evans’ Mansfield saw Slade’s men remain in 13th place.

Mitch Rose netted in the first half before former Lincoln City striker Lee Angol struck late into the second half.

Town could be without goalkeeper James McKeown. The shot stopper limped off with a groin injury just 33 minutes into the clash with Mansfield. Scott Vernon and JJ Hopper both came off the bench against the Stags and could be pushing for a place in Slade’s 11.

Accrington are in dire form having lost their last three SkyBet League Two fixtures. Stanley started the month in 3rd position, however defeats to Lincoln City, Crawley Town and Carlisle United have seen them drop to 9th.

Their latest defeat came at Brunton Park to a determined Carlisle outfit. Billy Kee’s second half penalty wasn’t enough as the Cumbrians ran out 3-1 winners.

Stanley captain Seamus Conneely is hoping to have recovered from a recurring groin injury whilst Erico Sousa is likely to miss out following a leg injury.

Grimsby are aiming to complete a league double over Accrington following an away victory earlier in the season.

Sam Jones had put the Mariners in front but the away side were pegged back by Cayden Jackson who stroked home just seconds before the break.

Martyn Woolford came on and scored the winner as the Mariners picked up an important three points on their travels.
