Sunderland, Hull City and Barnsley to battle it out to sign £1 million rated Scunthorpe United midfielder

Championship trio Sunderland, Hull City and Barnsley are all interested in signing Scunthorpe United winger Hakeeb Adelakun, according to the Daily Mail.

Adelakun’s contract with Scunthorpe expires in the summer and they are keen to tie him up on a longer contract. However, they may have to resign to losing him in January for a fee to prevent them from losing him on a free transfer in the summer.

The League One side apparently value him at around £1 million. This has left Championship trio Sunderland, Hull City and Barnsley on red alert. Premier League side Crystal Palace are also being linked, but a move to a Championship side seems more likely.

Sunderland are believed to be winning the race for him. Chris Coleman will be looking for some signings in January to bolster his squad and help them stay in the division this season. The Black Cats have struggled so far this season but will be hoping some signings in January will kick-start their season.

They will have to face competition from their Championship rivals Hull and Barnsley, who are also both in the lower reaches of the table and looking to climb up the league.

Adelakun, who is 21 years-old, has been in fine form for Scunthorpe United so far this season. He has scored 4 goals in their last 9 games. Since making his debut in 2012 aged just 16, he has gone onto play over 100 games for the Iron. Their fans will be praying in January that they can hold onto him.
