Preston North End are set to beat Rangers to the signing of prolific Motherwell striker

Preston North End are set to beat Rangers to the signing of Motherwell striker Louis Moult in January, according to the Daily Record.

The Championship side will apparently bid around £500,000 and make him an offer worth more than 10 times his current wage. He is set to open talks with Preston when the January transfer window opens.

Louis Moult has been attracting attention from Scottish giants Rangers and has also been linked with Birmingham City and Wigan Athletic in the past, however, it now appears that Preston have beaten them all to the signing.

Moult has scored 14 goals in all competitions so far this season for Motherwell and scored 15 league goals in both his previous campaigns in the Scottish Premier League.

He started his career with Stoke City but never managed to break into their first team. He had various loan spells out at the likes of Mansfield Town, Accrington Stanley, Alfreton Town and Bradford City before joining Northampton Town on a permanent deal in 2012.

However, a move to Northampton did not work out and Moult dropped into non-league with Nuneaton in 2013. His 17 goals for Nuneaton earned him a move to Wrexham the season after. He then bagged 22 goals for the National League side and moved to Motherwell after just a season.

Moult has plied his trade the hard way by dropping into non-league and then moving up to Scotland but it seems his hard work has paid off. This potential signing is an exciting one for Preston North End fans.
