Thomas Christiansen hails defence after Leeds United register big win over QPR

Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen has told the York Press that he was delighted with his team’s defence in their 3-1 win over QPR.

The hero of the day, and the man who got much of the praise from Leeds’ fanbase, was Kemar Roofe after he scored a hat trick in the game. After a goalless first half, Roofe broke the deadlock when he headed in a cross from Ezgjan Alioski before adding another when he finished coolly after being set up by Pawel Cibicki. QPR did get one back after a howler from Felix Wiedwald allowed a cross from Pawel Wszolek to go over him, but Roofe fired back to get his hat trick moments later.

But while Roofe was the talk of the town after this superb performance, Christiansen decided to praise his defence. He thought they did brilliantly even with everything QPR threw at them and especially how they were able to neuter the threat from former Leeds man Matt Smith.

He said: “In the first half we were not good but in the second we were better and it was important to score the first goal,”

“The whole defensive line was much better. We’ve had five games now where we have defended better and believe we’re stronger.

“They came under pressure and we defended well, because it was difficult with QPR’s direct play with Smith up front. It was a tough test for the defence.

“We have had five very good performances and I’m very pleased with the team, the performance and of course the result.”
