Nottingham Forest and Sunderland battling Premier League competition in race for Ghana international

Nottingham Forest and Sunderland are trying to fend off Premier League teams as they try to sign Aalesund FK’s Edwin Gyasi according to a report from the 10th December print edition of The Sunday People.

Both teams have not performed as well as they might have hoped this season. Forest have shown they can compete at the top of the Sky Bet Championship this year but have been inconsistent, leading them to be 11th in the table. Sunderland have been terrible though and have already changed manager with Chris Coleman coming into the helm to try and stop them suffering a double relegation, something that is entirely possible considering they are 23rd right now.

With both teams looking to improve in the second half of the season, they are already aiming to get players signed in the January transfer window. And both teams have become interested in signing Gyasi, who currently plays in the Tippeligaen for Aalesund FK. He has been very impressive in Norway, scoring 12 goals in 53 games while predominantly being used as a winger. This report says that they will have to pay £750K to lure him away from Scandinavia.

But it may be tough for Forest and Sunderland to complete a deal as they will be competing with Premier League sides for his signature. Both Brighton and Hove Albion and Stoke City have been taking a close look at Gyasi over the last few weeks and their position in the top tier of English football would give them the advantage in any negotiations.
