NEWS: Aston Villa to target a January move for out of favour Newcastle ace

Championship promotion hopefuls Aston Villa could target a loan move for Newcastle winger Rolando Aarons in January, according to the Birmingham Mail, via the Daily Mirror.

Manager Steve Bruce is intent on strengthening his forward line in January. Jonathan Kodjia is a long-term absentee, whilst misfiring Scott Hogan is also set for a spell on the sidelines.

With just one fully fit striker in Keinan Davis, Villa could be left short at the top end of the pitch should they fail to make any new additions.

However, due to financial fair play restrictions Bruce is unlikely to be granted a large budget, meaning that they could forced into the loan market for January signings.

The report states that Villa could face a fight to prize him to Villa Park, with Premier League duo Huddersfield Town and Crystal Palace both interested in bringing him to their respective clubs.

Aarons is on a long-term contract at St James’ park after signing a new 5 year deal in August 2016. But, has, however, struggled for game time in the Premier League this season.

The 22-year-old has found himself behind expensive recent additions Matt Ritchie, Christian Atsu and Jacob Murphy and he has made just two substitute appearances in the league.

Aarons’ only start of the season came in an EFL cup tie back in August, where he scored in a 3-2 home defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Newcastle staved off interest from Premier League giants Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham to tie him to a long-term deal in 2016, emphasising how highly rated he is. (The Independent)

A loan deal for Aarons to a top Championship club could be the move that helps kick-start his career once again.
