Aston Villa striker edging closer to return from injury

Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor is thought to be nearing a return from a niggling calf injury according to the Birmingham Mail.

The 31-year-old Birmingham born frontman has not featured for Villa in over two months and has missed his side’s last 11 matches in all competitions.

Agbonlahor has now updated Villa fans of his recovery from his injury on Instagram and the player has indicated that he has returned to training. The striker has shown himself pictured on an exercise bike and has hinted that a return to first team action is not far away.

After being thrown a final lifeline by Villa boss Steve Bruce following some poor conduct under the club’s previous regimes, Agbonlahor went on to make 14 appearances in all competitions for the club last season while the player scored the winning goal in Villa’s 1-0 victory over bitter rivals Birmingham City at Villa Park in April.

Agbonlahor has remained in the first team squad this term when fit although the former England international has managed just four outings for Bruce’s men.

With Villa currently occupying a play-off spot in the Sky Bet Championship table, Agbonlahor could have an important role to play as an experienced member of the squad and the player could be available for selection again within the next couple of weeks.
