Brentford midfielder closing in on first team return

Brentford midfielder Lewis Macleod is getting closer to making his first team return after playing 74 minutes for the club’s B team in a fixture against Inter Milan in Italy.

The 23-year-old Wishaw born midfield ace has been out of action for the past 12 months after picking up a serious knee injury in Brentford’s derby day victory over West London rivals Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road.

The Bees official website has reported that Macleod played 74 minutes of Brentford B’s 3-1 victory over Inter Milan before being replaced by Herson Alves. The West Londoners’ goals in the match came from Justin Shaibu, Sergi Canos and Theo Archibald while their opponents reduced the arrears in the second half from the penalty spot.

Returning midfielder Macleod has made a handful of appearances for the Brentford B team in recent weeks and the player is nearing his return to first team action. The midfielder could feature for Kevin O’Connor’s side in their next fixture at Reading on 3 November with a view to completing the first full 90 minutes since his injury.

Macleod joined Brentford from Glasgow giants Rangers in January 2015 for an undisclosed fee but the player has gone on to make just 14 appearances for The Bees after suffering a catalogue of injury problems at Griffin Park. The youngster was named Rangers’ Young Player of the Year during his time at Ibrox.
