Former England boss tips Bristol City for promotion

Former England manager Roy Hodgson has hinted that Bristol City have a good chance of winning a first promotion to the English Premier League after The Robins beat his Crystal Palace side 4-1 in the Carabao Cup.

A much changed Palace outfit took the lead at Ashton Gate courtesy of a Bakary Sako strike but goals from Matty Taylor, Milan Djuric, Joe Bryan and Callum O’Dowda turned the game on its head to give Bristol City an impressive victory.

The Robins are now in the quarter-finals of the competition and after putting on some superb performances in the Carabao Cup this season, Lee Johnson’s men should not fear anyone in the last eight.

It proved to be a dismal evening for a Palace side who are in severe danger of falling through the relegation trapdoor in the English Premier League this season. The Eagles boss Hodgson did save praise for opponents Bristol City and after the match, he hinted that The Robins have all of the attributes required to reach the top flight.

The former England boss told the Bristol PostBristol City showed some good football and have got all that is needed for a Premier League team.”

The victory over Palace now means that Bristol City are the only club from outside of the top flight remaining in this year’s competition.
