Villa’s goalscoring hero a doubt for St Andrews derby clash

Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor is a huge injury doubt for Sunday’s derby fixture with bitter rivals Birmingham City at St Andrews according to the Birmingham Mail.

The 31-year-old controversial frontman was Villa’s goalscoring hero when the two clubs last met in April with the player netting the only goal in a 1-0 victory at Villa Park.

The pair at set to meet at the other side of the city on Sunday but Agbonlahor is unlikely to be available for the match with the playing nursing a calf problem.

Agbonlahor has featured just four times for Villa this season with his last appearance coming early last month as the club drew 0-0 with Brentford at Villa Park in the Sky Bet Championship. The player is very much Birmingham City’s nemesis and news that Agbonlahor is a big doubt for the match will please the home supporters.

The first meeting between the two clubs last season was a 1-1 draw at St Andrews in October. That match was also a milestone for Agbonlahor with the occasion being the player’s first appearance for the club since a controversial shisha pipe incident and fallout with former boss Roberto Di Matteo.

Villa go into the match 11 points and 16 places better off than Birmingham City in the Sky Bet Championship table.
