Stephen Bywater hails Burton Albion as most together squad he’s been in

Burton Albion’s Stephen Bywater has told the club website that he believes that the current team is the most tight-knit squad he has ever been apart of.

Bywater is now a veteran of the EFL having made his professional debut back in 1999 while on loan with Wycombe Wanderers and has been part of plenty of teams since having played for the likes of Derby County, Sheffield Wednesday and Millwall. He then signed for Burton in 2016 and has become their number one this season.

But while Burton have had a bad time as of late, with the Brewers losing their last two matches 4-0, Bywater believes that the team has the resolve to battle through and make sure they don’t get relegated from the Sky Bet Championship. He even went so far to say that the current squad is the most together team that he has ever been apart of, an impressive statement considering how long he has been around.

He said: “I think it was important that we were all together after the two back-to-back defeats. It gives us a good chance to get to know the new lads, work out their personalities and characters, find out what they are like outside of a working environment.”

“We feel stronger as a team after these trips, last season for example we went on a trip the week before Huddersfield away and we come away with all three points. To me it felt like winning the World Cup.”

“We’ve got a much better spirit within the squad this year and have better quality, the togetherness within the squad is even better, the signings we make realise they’ve got to be a part of the group. We have to fight for each other.”

“This is the best club I have been at it is a very tight-knit club, you can’t buy it. It’s hard to get a group of lads who want to win for each other. Everyone knows each other here, from the ticket office, the kitchen staff, the media everyone says hello and knows each other and that shows how together the club is.”
