Championship side Charlton Athletic have today confirmed the signing of Icelandic winger Johan Berg Gudmondsson.

The London side have obtained the former AZ Alkmaar man on a free transfer after his contract with the Dutch club expired in the summer.

The 23-year old arrives at The Valley having made 145 appearances for the Eredivisie side, scoring 13 goals and earning 32 international caps in the process.

Speaking to Charlton Athletic’s official website, Gudmondsson described his feelings at signing for the club.

“I’m excited to be here, it’s a new challenge for me and I can’t wait to start training with the lads.

“I heard of the interest a few weeks ago and obviously I’m on a free transfer so there were a lot of things happening, but in the end I decided to go with Charlton.

“It’s a great club with a good history and I think we are building something good here.”

Left-footed Gudmondsson becomes The Addicks sixth summer signing, after the recent acquisition of experienced full back Tal Ben Haim.
