Northampton Town have signed Matt Ingram on loan from QPR for the season as confirmed by the club website.
The 23-year-old goalkeeper has been a highly rated goalkeeper from his days back at Wycombe Wanderers where he was consistently impressive, especially when he was able to step up and be a replacement for fan favourite Nikki Bull. After making 140 appearances, he moved on from the Chairboys and signed for QPR and he hoped to be a regular for the R’s.
However he has been stuck behind Alex Smithies, someone who showed himself to be one of the best goalkeepers in the division last season as he was a standout performer even when QPR themselves struggled. This has meant Ingram has had to stew on the bench and that has stalled his development as a player. He had to wait three months before making his debut and has only made ten appearances in a year and a half at Loftus Road. But now he will get a chance to get some first team football after a signing a temporary deal with Northampton that will keep there until the end of the season.
The Cobblers will be hoping to further establish themselves in Sky Bet League One this season and having a top quality shot stopper is necessary if they want to make sure they are in the upper half of the table. Considering how highly rated Ingram was when he was at Wycombe, Northampton will certainly be hoping that he will be a great signing for them.
