Birmingham City would have to compete with Premier League sides Stoke City and West Ham United for Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, according to The Sun.
There have been rumours today linking Wilshere with a move away from the Emirates Stadium, with Championship side Birmingham City a shock name mentioned. Wilshere spent last season on loan at Premier League side AFC Bournemouth and the midfielder is reportedly free to leave the club on another season-long loan deal.
Speaking about the future of Wilshere, Arsene Wenger said: “You know how much I love Jack and his talent. But today in the football world you need a consistent presence. What is at stake for Jack is not his quality or his talent, it is his presence at the top. His quality is not in doubt.”
Speaking of “his presence at the top”, Wenger may prefer Wilshere to make a loan move to another Premier League side, rather than Birmingham in the Championship. The midfielder himself may also prefer this option, as he looks to prove he can manage a full season in the Premier League.
However, Birmingham are reportedly keen on Wilshere and have a very experienced manager in charge in Harry Redknapp. Being as well-respected as he is, Redknapp could perhaps persuade the Arsenal midfielder to join him in the Championship.
Birmingham have already loaned both Carl Jenkinson and Cohen Bramall from Arsenal this summer. If he can somehow complete a deal for Wilshere, the signing will no doubt be one of the biggest coups of his career.
