Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony has put Derby on red alert after a cryptic tweet regarding winger Marcus Maddison was released earlier today.
Maddison has been in fine form for Peterborough, particularly last season where he scored 9 and set up a further 12, making him a hot prospect in League One, and meaning he has attracted plenty of potential suitors, including Derby County.
The reasoning for the chairman’s tweet is at this point unknown, but the fact the matter has resulted in a confirmation of his future coming later in the day – and not now – may worry Posh fans as to what is happening behind the scenes.
Derby are still at this late stage in the market for a winger. This comes after former star player Tom Ince made the switch to West Yorkshire and to Huddersfield. Perhaps more worryingly, there is such little time remaining in the window it may be almost impossible for Peterborough to replace Maddison with someone of his quality.
The reluctance to tell fans immediately that Marcus Maddison isn’t for sale must surely be a unnerving sight for many Posh supporters, however, if a bid above £1 million is received as is suggested by MacAnthony, and with the delay in revealing Maddison’s future, could Peterborough have found the ideal replacement? Posh fans will have their fingers tightly crossed come 4pm and the announcement from the chairman…
