Lincoln City close in on deadline day striker recruit

Speaking to the Sports Echo, Lincoln City manager Danny Cowley has revealed that he is nearing a deal to bring a striker into the club. The highly-rated tactician has confirmed that an offer for a forward has been accepted, and was due to have a medical yesterday.

It is only really the striker position that the Lincoln boss is looking to strengthen prior to tonight’s 11pm deadline. There is also the outside chance of another full back coming into the club if possible, but complementing the likes of Matt Rhead, Matt Green and Ollie Palmer is a priority of his.

It has been an excellent week for the Imps, emphatically beating Carlisle United and then Mansfield Town in Sky Bet League Two and the Checkatrade Trophy respectively. A new striker though appears to be on the horizon,

“We’ve had a bid accepted.”

That being said, a Sky Bet League One club is also in the picture, meaning that this deal is another but straightforward. Still, Cowley, along with brother and assistant manager Nicky, will be hoping to use their persuasive and convincing viewpoints to lure the striker to the club ahead of higher league opposition.

The Stacey West blog website offered some views from Lincoln City fans as they speculation on who this mystery man might be. Dave Tarpey is a name linked to many EFL clubs today, whilst Barnet forward John Akinde has been mentioned too. Simeon Akinola previously worked with the Cowley brother’s at Braintree Town, so that link is natural.
