Sunderland want Bournemouth defender on loan

Sunderland are looking to sign Bournemouth defender Marc Wilson, according to the Sun.

The Black Cats have been interested in Aston Villa defender Tommy Elphick for a lot of this summer, however it looks like he will be staying at Villa Park. Sunderland will now turn their attention to Bournemouth defender Marc Wilson.

Wilson is surplus to requirements at Premier League side Bournemouth and is expected to leave them today. He has been linked with various Championship clubs this transfer window, but it looks like Sunderland is his most likely destination.

The Ireland international started his career with Portsmouth in the Premier League before moving onto Stoke. Wilson played over 100 games for the Potters. A move to Bournemouth followed, however his chances with the Cherries were limited and he was shipped out on loan to West Brom in January last season. He featured 4 times for West Brom last season.

Sunderland boss Simon Grayson is looking to add some defensive reinforcements to his side before the transfer deadline. The Black Cats have lost their last two games, a 2-0 home defeat to Leeds at the Stadium of Light and then a 3-0 defeat away to Barnsley. Despite this, the North-East club did make a promising start to the season. They have added players like Lewis Grabban and Aiden McGeady to their squad in the summer, both of who have had decent starts in their Sunderland careers. It is likely that Bournemouth’s Marc Wilson will be following them through the entrance doors to the Stadium of Light. It is now a race against time for the deal to get over the line today.
