Chris Wood says his final goodbyes to the fans and club

Burnley striker Chris Wood has said his final goodbye to the Leeds United fans on twitter and he also thanked the club for everything they’ve done for him.

His statement reads as follows, “I want to thank all the fans, coaches, players and management of Leeds United FC. This is a great club and I am very grateful for the opportunity I was given here. The club wanted me to stay and were discussing a new deal but when the opportunity came to go to the Premier League I wanted to take this chance with Burnley. I wish Leeds all the best for the new season and I can’t wait to start my adventure with Burnley.

Chris Woods’ time at Leeds ended on a sour note after he refused to play their last match at Sunderland. This caused the Leeds United faithful to turn against him. This is a massive change from before the transfer when he was very much a fan favourite having scored 30 goals last campaign.

This is the second Leeds United player to have moved to Burnley in this transfer window as Charlie Taylor, who is also hated amongst Leeds United fans, joined last month.

Given he scored 30 goals last season and Burnley have just sold Andre Gray to Watford it’s clear why Burnley have bought the New Zealander. As I’ve already mentioned, Wood said “I can’t wait to start my adventure with Burnley” and both Wood and Burnley will be hoping his form can carry over to the Premier League to help try to keep Burnley in the Premier League for the third successive season.
