Blackburn Rovers are leading the race to sign Middlesbrough’s Connor Ripley though Bristol City remain interested according to a report from journalist Alan Nixon.
The Lancashire club need a new goalkeeper as they sold their usual number one Jason Steele, coincidentally a player they had signed from Middlesbrough, to Sunderland during this transfer window. They know they need a reliable number one if they want to have a chance of returning to the Sky Bet Championship at the first time of asking and they are looking to the club they got Steele from last time.
They are wanting to sign Ripley, a 24-year-old goalkeeper currently contracted to Middlesbrough. He came through their famed academy but has only made a few appearances, getting most of his first team experience out on loan at clubs such as Oxford United, Ostersund and Motherwell. Most recently he was at Oldham Athletic where he really impressed and became a fan favourite at Boundary Park. But while the Latics did seem to want him back, Ripley will be heading elsewhere next season.
Ripley’s new home will most likely just be a short way away from Oldham as Blackburn are leading the race to sign him. However they might still miss out on the player as Bristol City are also said to be interested. It would seem that they would have the advantage as they are playing in the Championship this season but with it being unclear if Ripley would claim the number one spot, Rovers are still the team most likely to sign him.
