Millwall looking to sign two more players before season opener

Millwall boss Neil Harris has told the Evening Standard that he is hoping to bring in two new faces before the Lions’ season opener against Nottingham Forest next weekend.

The London club have already signed five players, this summer, including Wolves midfielder George Saville, AFC Wimbledon man Tom Elliott and right back Conor McLaughlin from Fleetwood Town, but Harris believes he still needs a couple of additions in order to launch their bid for Championship survival this season.

He said: “We are very, very busy behind the scenes and have made no secret that we want a couple more additions.

“We are working extremely hard in dialogue with clubs and agents to make it happen and I think we are very fortunate that we brought five first-team targets in out of five, and two more we are after have been stop-start.”

Arsenal’s teenage striker Stephy Mavididi is a name that has been linked with Millwall in recent weeks; the Lions are reportedly set to rival fellow Championship newcomers Bolton Wanderers and League One side Blackburn Rovers for the player’s signature.

The Lions were promoted from the third tier last season after winning the playoffs, culminating in a narrow 1-0 victory over Bradford City at Wembley to secure the return of Championship football to The Den for the first time since the 2014/15 season.

However, it will certainly be a challenge for the club to avoid relegation this time around.

Bookmakers Sky Bet have Millwall among the favourites to face the drop this campaign; they are priced at 5/2 to return to the third tier next season.
