Nottingham Forest set to bring in another midfielder in next 48 hours

Nottingham Forest manager Mark Warburton has said that he expects to sign another midfielder in the coming days, according to the Nottingham Post.

The Reds are set to complete the signing of full back Tendayi Darikwa from Premier League side Burnley in the next 24 hours, but Warburton is already looking forward to his next summer signing.

“We will have one more player coming in, still, in midfield. We want another talented, forward thinking midfield type, to go along with what we have got already,” he told the Nottingham Post.

“We have players who can fill different roles. Zach Clough is a number 10, Ben Osborn can comfortably play there, Barry McKay can play there – every place must have competition. To have that array of options and that array of quality is pleasing.

“Nobody can be given a shirt in the dressing room. They all have to work for it.

“Now we have quality in every position. We still want to add. We are in a position to announce one player in the next 24 hours and in a position to announce another over the next 48 hours.

“We are getting there.”

The former Brentford and Rangers boss reiterated his belief that competition for places is vital.

Forest have already added to their attacking ranks following the loss of talisman Britt Assombalonga; Daryl Murphy and Jason Cummings have joined the club this summer, and fellow new signing Barrie McKay is also capable of playing in an advanced role.

And Warburton has said that having a squad saturated with quality will bring the best out of his players as they look to nail down a first-team spot.

“We have seen that from Vellios and from a number of players. You saw the energy provided by the subs on Saturday and again by the subs against Girona,” he said.
